I thought that machine looked funny! Especially the backside of the mechanism. Thanks for sharing on here.

As a newer member and certainly not very knowledgeable in Watling models, I am trying to learn about spotting fakes (in any brand) and hope you can shed more light on the one you found compared to this one on Ebay - is this a "Legit" machine ?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Slot-Machine-W ... 0009.m1982

Compairing the two I can see that the mechanisms are different - (again, I am not familiar with either mech showing) and the wood case on the first one looks like it does not fit good. The jackpot of the first one looks like it's all one, not 2 separate like in the second machine. But the 2 handles look the same to me.... can you point out the differences in the two ? And I can see that the back door is not correct compared to the second one. Last, what is it about the castings that shows it is a fake ?
Thanks in advance for helping out a "newbie" ! :D

Hello
You can find more info on this thread.
search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&author_id=808&start=20
Just need to see an original Watling for make difference with a reproduction.
About the handle; here is a photo.
The Watling Handle is more large with text on it ( if no text on it , it’s a reproduction or over polished ! ).the early version was on Blue seal (except last version of blue seal) ,and sometimes on few early version of Rol a top.

The original back door have a W embossed on it ( no W on the early early version) .But some very good reproduction have also the W on it ,so ,its hard to tell if it s an original or not with just a photo .

The one on Ebay look fine , nice gold color ,good mech, good handle,…!

But over restored for me , and when you are Lucky to have a 1ç mech , why don t put it in a case with gumball distributor ?? #-o
I know , it s hard to find , but keep the mech for the day when you find the front casting !!
AND ,if someone have a gumball front casting to sell , please let me know !! =P~ [-o<

FYI, it looks like the machine sold. It had 1 bid for $3,500

I contacted the seller (hfireworks) before the auction closed and told him the machine was a total fake.

His response was a joke.

Bottom line, someone got screwed and never buy anything from hfireworks.

Maybe buyer will make an excuse and back out of the sale before making payment.
We'll see if seller relists if that happens.

So sad. I know there are people who visit this forum that are not members. Even if you don't want to join, which costs nothing, if you or someone you know is planning on buying a machine please check this forum for information about coin-ops and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask, but you will have to join to asks questions. It could save you a lot of money and heartbreak.
