Watling Rol A Top

Postby tigrshark » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:45 am

Hello-

I am new here and I was wondering if you guys could help me date and value a slot machine that my dad has recently passed down to me. It is a Watling "Rol A Top" Nickel slot machine.
It looks like it has been refurbished, because it appears to be in very good shape. I am not sure if you can tell the year of manufacture based on the part number, however I am guessing this is correct. Any insight and help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are 3 pics of the machine:

Rol-A-Top

Your Rol-A-Top has been restored and brass plated. The date of manufacture can be closer with the serial number which can be found on the paper label inside the cabinet, if it's still there, or on the end of the wood block on the botton right of the cabinet, next to the coin box. It was manufactured in the late 30's or early 40's. You have the foreign coin castings, American coin castings would be worth more. Value based on current sales is $3500 to $4000.

The earliest reference i can find is 1934 or 1935 your coin head appears to be a little later those machines were produced into the late forties. Of course a lot of different fronts were also produced. T.J.

Thanks guys! Interesting stuff. I appreciate any insight. If I were to go about selling it, what would be the best method? Shipping is about 150 from what I can gather. The machine is located in Palos Verdes, Ca.

Good news! I finally got inside the machine and found out that it is dated
May 1, 1934. I guess this makes it an older model.
