Someone really done a job on this one. Looks to be about 4 layers of different paint on this one. #-o Mech does work.

Nice! lol I picked up a castle front here a while back that had several layers of John Deere Green paint on it.....including the wood, glass, award card, etc. The only exception was the handle, it was painted pumpkin orange. I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish with the paint job, but it was a lot of work to strip everything back down...the only reason I tackled it was because the mech was good, and I got it for a real song.........

If you're going to restore it and that award card is an orig. 2/4 card, and if you want to sell it please let me know. I need an original.

This one wasn't cheap but it is a good solid machine. Got it at an auction. Restoring it for a friend. It will take some time to get it stripped and repainted. It just makes me wonder how these were painted at the factory. It had to take some time to do it.

That is a good question that I have often wondered myself....does anyone know the process they used to paint the more ornate machines? Were they hand-painted? Or did they spray using several cut-out templates? After doing a couple of castle-fronts, war eagles, etc......they are very tedious

I do have a 2/4 card but it is just a copy of an old original. Hardly any color on it. Also have some other copies of 2/4 cards for a war eagle or castle front.

Getting close. Waiting for some parts that are getting plated. Also waiting for some new reel strips.

Very nicely done! I believe the factory had metal stencils they laid over as masks for painting. They used tin stencils for old pinball machines and i would imagine it was the same for the slots. They would not have been able to mask each color off like we do now, and it would have been more cost effective to make one stencil for hundreds of machines.
