Are you interested in selling it or A trade or just a value? Where are you located? If you just want it restored somebody might be able to recommend a local person.

Located in Kansas. I will probably try cleaning and lubing it myself. Then see how it operates. But not for sale.

ok to clean the mech, but DO NOT repaint or re-finish.
you have a rare machine that is clean, original condition.
if you repaint it, you will LOSE value.
remember... IT'S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE!

Look at this very closely, do your research on it. The parts on the escalator will be stamped 50 cent if it is truely a fifty cent machine. The big problem is that so many of these are no more than english penny conversions. If it pays correctly thats a plus if it shorts you its a good shot at being english. I have heard there are original 50C machines out there but Watling never advertised them and may have been special order only.

Found this part inside the mechanism when I started cleaning. Any idea what it is and where it came from?

Your Rol-A-Top is a single cherry pay probably built right after the war based on the serial.

There are numerous ads that have survived advertising 50 cent Rol-A-Tops for sale, below are a few.

As for the converted English penny Rol-A-Top, I myself have never seen one in all my years of collecting. Every 50 cent RAT I have seen has been original. If anyone has a photo or owns an English penny RAT, if you could please post a photo, I would appreciate it. I have seen numerous English Mills machines, goosenecks, war eagles, roman heads, Jennings machines etc. but not a Rol-A-Top. In fact I am trying to recall any English penny Watling machines and can't off hand think of one. As far as the part found in the cabinet, I don't recognize it.

The part almost looks like a bug(honest abe) for the machine.

Fatman is right. It does look like a 'bug'. Check the code discs on your reel bundle, to see
if there are any others in place, or if there are two 6-32 holes at the outer part of the discs,
that would line up with this piece. If this is the case, don't put it back, as you want to be
able to enjoy your machine with fair-play. On the same note - if there are any others, take
them off as well. I have a box full of all different types of bugs, that I have removed from
numerous machines over the years.
This was commonplace for many establishments to bug machines on location. However, if
any style bugs were found on Nevada Casino machines, the Gaming Commission would bolt
their doors closed in a heartbeat.
