Mills Lion Head

Postby MJFHouston » Sat Feb 10, 2018 7:44 pm

I picked this up from a guy who said it was placed in the attic in 1961 with a sheet thrown over it. The house is now being cleaned out and guess what was still under a sheet in the attic. All original missing back plate and door.

Looks right to me. Mills - your pictures show a 20 stop mech, which is incorrect. The Lion Front was a 10 stop mech.

In 1931 Mills introduced the new Silent Bell mechanism . The Lion Head should have had the new mechanism in it and could be either 10 or 20 stop much like the early War Eagles. The mechanism in this Lion Head is from the old Operator Bell line which were all 10 stop. It is possible that Mills did produce some with left over old Operator Bell mechanism. Also has the wrong award card I believe.

You are right !
Lion head, like skycraper are slots machine come from silent's serie. Silent serie was introduced in 1931. The mechanism in your Lion Head was made in the 20's... This is not a silent mechanism !!
Silent mechanism exist in 10 or 20 stops and in regulare or mystery paid (2-4 or 3-5).

Look photos :
Mills mechanism made in the 20's
