Castle Front 5 Cent

Postby kevkev60614 » Fri May 02, 2014 7:38 am

I was bequeathed a slot machine and I just put it up on ebay... but I have no idea what I'm doing here. :?

Is $1,000 an appropriate starting bid? Anything else I did wrong/could improve?

Thanks in advance!

Your ad looks good. Just remember there is going to be about a $150 fee charged by eBay and PayPal combined. Are you going to pack it? If not, UPS will charge about $75 to pack it I believe.

As long as you didn't purchase any of the bells and whistles eBay offers (bold letters, gallery pack, etc.) you'll pay eBay a final value fee of 10% (not to exceed $250) and you'll pay PayPal 2.9% + $0.30 (unless you've negotiated better rates).

For example, if the final price on your auction is $1300, you'll receive $1,132. This equates to roughly a 13% auction fee. Not bad when you consider opening your doors to millions of buyers and the fact that most auction houses charge a 20-30% fee.

$75 is about what I was quoted.

I put $175 for shipping based on online shipping calculators and what I'd seen other listings do, but I didn't actually speak to anyone on the phone. Now that I am calling around, it looks like packing, shipping, and insurance will be twice that amount. Anyone have any tips on shipping machines? Is the buyer likely to balk if I charge them the $175 but change shipping providers?

These machines have to be packed very well with at two inches of foam all around and in a very strong container like a wooden box. I know some guys that ship them in barrels. Even then some of then still get damaged. I still think that 175 will be about what it will cost to ship not counting packaging. Make sure you contact the buyer before shipping.
