Watling Treasury sat in a barn for many years. Clock is frozen - a little rust but doesn't look that bad. Cannot see anything in the gears binding. So next step is to pull the clock, check closer and probably clean. Normal recommendation is boil the clock in carburetor cleaner for 30 minutes moving it a few times. Does anyone have experience or a better recommendation? Thanks, Flip.
I put mine in my parts washer, used to be a bucket and add mineral spirits or kerosene and let it sit for a few days. Clean off with a stiff bristled brush. Do not submerge the fiber gear if it has one.
Hello Flipper77 First ,try to remove the three screw and keep safe the fiber gear !! If you destroy the fiber gear , YOU have a big problems !! Stephane
Thanks to all. First, not for sale at present. And I will proceed with Stephane suggestion first and disassemble the clock after removing from mech. Clock is a normal Watling clock - I have never encountered the so-called fiber gears. Then either mineral spirits bath or Purple Power bath seems in order with a bit of help with a toothbrush. I have had mixed results in clock disassembly. Have found very thin washers used as a shim probably put in by operators over time to rescue worn gears. And my experience is Mills clocks only so assuming Watling clock has no special got-chas. Thanks again for all of the comments.
