roll away escalator

Postby sam2002 » Tue Dec 29, 2015 2:54 pm

Hello
recently picked up a high top with the roll away escalator . My question is it seems to jam up a bit when pulling the handle down .It will shoot the nickel across the escalator at a high speed and then return back to the starting point . It appears to be hanging up on this part which looks severely worn to me . Does anyone know if this grind mark put on the escalator on purpose ? The grind mark referred to is just below the coin slider on the right hand side , it is where the brass is showing through the chrome it is almost like there are to separate but small humps that the slide catches on and jams up .

There used to be a tensioner on the escalator made of flat spring steel copper flashed. The two very small screw holes on the right is where it attached and a finger went out to the left. The tiny tab on the bottom right of the advance bar slid under the finger. What prob happened was the tab and finger may have needed grease but instead someone took the finger off and then ground the frame in back which caused more problems by letting the small tab catch on the ridges. To fix your going to have the ground area brazed in and filed smooth then install a new tensioner and grease before using.
