MILLS QT STICKY 3RD REEL STOP LEVER ISSUE

Postby rtmccurdy » Mon Jan 04, 2016 3:11 pm

Hello all. I'm having a problem with my Mills QT Hashmark 3rd reel stop lever. The lever moves, albeit reluctantly on the mainshaft. (The 1st/2nd reel stop levers work as intended and the machine still cycles and pays as it should and all springs are present and good) After removing the reel bundle is there a way to free up this part without disassembling the entire mainshaft assembly? If not---recommendations?? I do not have as much experience with the QT mechs as I do the full-size Mills machines. I do have the Saul & Geddes QT Guide and other functioning QT's for reference. As an aside---any QT repair specialists within 250 miles of Sioux Falls, SD?

Just had exact same issue with my penny Sweetheart QT. The third reel stop lever was slow causing third reel spin and payout problems. Maybe too obvious and untechnical - - - but I laid the mech on it's side to allow Liquid Wrench Penetrating Fluid to slowly work into the fitting on the shaft. Manually move the lever back and forth - did take a good while to work the hardened lubricant out. Finally freed up and moves quickly and smoothly as the first and second levers. Drop of light oil finished up. Worked fine ever since.

Hi Ron Get some 3 in 1 oil, it has a hose that makes it easier to get to the bearing rod without dismantling the whole reel assembly . Drop 1-2 drops between the reel hubs. Then either play the machine or stop the clock before the reel stops drop in and you should be able to spin the reels by hand.. Spin forward a few times and the backward a few to work the oil into the bearing rod. If it does not work you may have to pull the rod and burnish it as it could be gunked up or corroded.

I see Three-In-One oil mentioned quite a bit on this forum, it is a quality oil but will gum up with age. I changed to a synthetic oil called Liquid Bearings, won't gum up with age and it will flow into tight spots better. They have a web sight try it.

Thanks flipper77! QT Hashmark works like a charm. Took about 10 minutes of lever manipulation and a bit of the penetrating oil. Now if I can just find an original Mills front lock it will be perfect!! Robert
