cleaning slot tokens ?

Postby JHSS-1944 » Tue Jun 28, 2016 2:11 am

Hello to all.
just bought 20 gaming tokens for the Evens bang tails (20 more for the Keeney machine & a gold award for Jennings slot).

the Evans "tokens" are a bimetallic type = "brass" & aluminum.
anyone have a good way to clean these up with out screwing up the metals ??

all have some age spots ,minor corrosion.... don't need them to look newly made, just nicer.

the Keeney are new old stock in great shape, solid brass , no need to clean these.
& the Jennings is very good shape, again ,no need to clean.

Thanks in advance. Jeff H.

HI

I use NEVER DULL found in hardware stores. You rub the cloth wad on it and control the cleaning action.

Hey bud I use something called barkeepers friend comes in container like comet cleanser. Good for all metals including aluminum. In a pinch I also use plain baking soda and little bit of agua to make a paste and rub it on or use old tooth brush and if you don't have that use toothpaste! I've used that to clean the plastic lenses on my truck to make them clear again to lol! Or you can just bring them over here and use my stuff.

For the big jobs, I found Lysol toilet bowl cleaner to work the best. For brass and copper.
It's basically a weak acid, so you need to rinse the metal thoroughly with lots of soap and water. Then I use MAAS metal polish to get the final shine.

I restored a National brass cash register using the cleaner and polish, then finished the project with automotive clear coat from a rattle can. Still looks stunning as new. Here's a pic of it on the left.

I believe my idea would work best for you because if you came to my place and used my suggestions it includes sandwiches and beer!

Now Jeff, you should know better than that! Regardless of how old or new the machine is, and the laws of each state, leaving the premises
with take home coins, is subject to being fitted with a nice pair of chrome handcuffs. Also, if the law was really stiff in that town, they could
toss in a charge of bribery as well, for feeding you. You know, like the Casino does with drinks, to keep you shoveling cash into the machine. [-X

Speaking of which: There was a fellow here in California, many years ago, (and I don't remember what our law was at the time, because it
was originally that the machines had to be 1941 or older. Then a few years later it was changed to 1956 or 1957, then later again, to the
machines having to be 25 years or older). Regardless, he was having regular gambling parties at his home, and also selling newer repro, and
electro-mechanical machines to whomever. The law got wind of it, and he was raided. They confiscated hundreds of machines. New and old,
including his entire collection of older ones. It took him many court appearances, and boo-cu dollars, to retrieve his old stuff. Many of which
he had to sell, to recoup court and attorney costs. That's only one of several similar stories that I have heard over the years.

I'm less than 5 minutes from DESERT DIAMOND WEST...... And yes, I know the Gaming laws of my state & the loop holes in them....... & it's a Nice web site too, easy to read / understand.
