Mills safe stand

Postby JHSS-1944 » Tue Sep 27, 2016 2:43 am

Hello to all;
just bought a brown front & on it's original war era safe stand.
Any one have any type of information on the lock On the safe stand ??
Original owner many years back lost the keys. his grandson eventually got the slot. recently decided to sell ,as money was needed.
A "picker" got it before I did but, sold it to me for a few bucks more.

the Picked destroyed the lock big time & even then was still in the locked position. bought it as is, took 10 minutes to get it "unlocked".
really would like to replace the lock But need more information on the lock & how it attaches to the 2 metal "slide" arms.

Any help would be nice. IF you own one of these ,then you know the lock was installed first,Then the long metal plate was spot welded across the back covering the whole thing up.
side note stand, originally painted O.D. green, then later painted flat dark blue.

Hi, don't know about the locking system, but they are described in the attached article from Mills Spinning Reels magazine advertising the stands made by The Mills Novelty Company.

Thank you Freddy (once again) !!
And I always love the original advertising !!!!
not sure how common these stands are today, but IF any one wants to see a few photos of it / the locking bar area in question, please say so & I will put a few up.

note; earliest date I had seen mentioning theses was Feb. 1943.
