Mills high top with no pay out slot?

Postby Nextelcherp1 » Thu Nov 10, 2016 5:25 pm

Hi
I bought a Mills high top and didn't reaslize it didn't have a payout area until I started to look at it. I bought it from a good friend so I didn't bother imspecting it until I got home and now I'm wondering if I messed up. I took the Mech out and the coin tube goes into a hole in the base of the machine. The front is completely covered. I was thinking that maybe it was on a stand that had a payout slot on it. Here are some photos. I don't know if I should cut a opening in the front and rebuild the coin tube or leave it alone?

Nextelcherp1;
Looks like a nice original machine. roughly how much do you have into it ?
what I see ; coin tube directly into a bigger cash box below the machine (correct , mounted on a stand , ect.). remove this tube , add a "correct" cash box. this was done so they didn't have to empty the original box so often , on well played machines.

Also all the parts on the Jack pot are gone , may cost you a little bit on those.
now ,are you saying it has the front blocked so no pay out via the front pay out cup area ??
this is usually found on jack pot win only machines, where some one would have to come over validate the win & pay you directly.
A photo of the front of the mechanics might be needed here also.
so far ,only minor restoration issues.

I have one just like it, picked it up about 6mo ago. Same paint and fancy gold trim under the glass between the reels. Also same red magic marker on all the castings. I'm not sure if that gold trim was Mills or a Casino, but I wonder if they both sat on location together at one time. Where did you find it, any idea of its history or what casino it came from?

Your payout tube looks to dump into the front tray, I agree your jackpot is not complete, but looks simple to remove the tube and stick a coinbox in to collect coins instead of in a separate stand.

I bought it in a package deal. I bought a caille slot machine a mills Roto-Slot which is a very uncommon looking machine and this mills high top all in Jacksonville Oregon. If you look at the bottom it's completely covered we're the pay out dish was. . Here are more photos.

Never seen a set up like that. Interesting thanks for sharing.
Looking for survivor machines especially vendor fronts or original side vendors with or without
a machine. 1920's-30's goosenecks, round escalators. I enjoy hand painting the castings.

Again , not usually seen unless it's a jackpot only machine. Maybe this was a way to get around the gaming laws in what ever state it was played in. you win , "owner " verified the win , & he paid you ,or got a free drink , or % off on something ?
That should be just an added plate to cover up the pay out holes.
in any event , should be fairly easy to put back to how it left the factory , & won't cost you to much.
over all , a nice mills high top.
depending how how much you paid for this 3 piece set, pretend you payed full price on the other 2 , then any money you put into this ones will seem worth it/ reasonable.
cut the tube out , buy cash box, buy missing parts on J.P., buy coin chute , pay out bowl , & ?
should not be any real issue.

Before you go to the trouble of buying a new payout bowl, might want to make sure the mech is complete and pays out properly (test it out of the cabinet). I would guess it has been disabled in some way or coins would be backing up in the chute to the blocked payout cup.

Thanks for all the help. I will cut out the face that is blocking the pay out then figure we're what else I need. I love projects just was not expecting this to be on when I bought it. I was just expecting to buy a lock and cash box. The real project is the Roto Slot that came with it. Here are photos of the other two machines.

Wow, nice to see a Caille Commander in what appears to be fully operational condition! Nickels in the JP, nickels in the reserve, nickels in the escalator! =D> Also appears to have been repainted; I wish they'd taken a little extra trouble with the masking tape and kept the original creme piping, though. Here's one I did not so long ago.
