Castle Gold Award resto

Postby MTB » Fri Nov 25, 2016 2:27 pm

Hi. This is my first post! I bought a Mills Castle Front w/gold award and the double jackpot. It needed full cosmetic resto which is close to finished. The gold award unit is in the machine- but looks like some levers are missing. When I bought it -there were no gold award symbols on reels and someone had put an award card in-but not the original. It does play and pay correct to card. How difficult is it to put it back to a working gold award? The award unit is cast into bottom front casting and most of the inside parts are there. Do I have to change the reels? I realize these questions may seem funny-but I never had to do this. I could leave the machine the way it is...but would prefer to have it all working. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Matt

Pictures of the mech would help. Could tell if you are missing any parts. If you have all the parts it may just need some lube or adjustments. It does sound like you may have to replace the reel bundle. Where are located. Someone in your area maybe able to help.

Added some pics. The one lever pictured was in the cash box-other is from another slot. One pic is condition I bought it in-outside was poor-but inside pretty good. My question is-what do I need or have to change to get this to work? Thanks

Your missing the mechanisms vendor trip lever which attaches to the backspin lever. You do have the screw to mount it in the back i see. Your also missing the vendor trip linage that goes onto the vendor housing. The two similar parts on the sub-base are for the escalator.

Thanks for the info. Are these parts reproduced? Also...what about the reels-just the new gold award strips and no other changes?

It appears that you are missing all of the linkage needed to get the gold award to work. And based on the color of the reel they appear to newer and most likely not the ones for the gold award to work. It is possible to maybe everything that you need but it may take some time and money. You can alway paint the glass that shows the gold award tokens the same color as your machine to make it look like part of the castings. The two parts that you have are from the esculator. I do not have a machine at this time with the gold award but maybe someone else can posts some pictures of one working and the parts you are missing.

You should be able to get the parts from Dave Berten. The gold award strips need to be put on also. Check the disks, they should have a notch just below the point so the backspin lever goes in further than normal to engage the trip on the vendor. If you do not have the notch you may have to change the disks.

Welcome to the forum !!!
glad you could join us.
First , I have no "extra" parts at this time but , images to show you what to look for / need. look for the 3 notches in the discs red arrow. green arrow for part that fits into it. no notch = replace full bundle assembly.
Next missing 2 (?) pieces & a spring. some versions have slightly different looking parts.
Next ,the award trip push bar , variations of this to ,depending on era & coin denomination.
last photo of a bar shown out side of where it goes, with arrows to the ends seen on the one still installed. you have the back shoulder screw buy the 2nd one might be gone.
