'38 Mills Melon Bell Reel Disks

Postby bkrsdoz » Fri Jan 06, 2017 5:45 am

I recently purchased a '38 Mills Melon Bell slot machine.
The reel strips appeared to be pieced together, so I ordered a set from Rick Frink.
When I disassembled the machine, I found out that the reel disks are not original to the mech.
The #1 reel disk has a gold award notch. and several symbols have been pieced onto the reel strip.
The #2 reel disk appears to be correct.
The #3 reel disk is not correct, and has a Melon glued over a gold award symbol.

My question is are the Melon reel disks common to any other Mills machine or are they special made for the Melon Bell?
Would anyone have a set of original reel disks that would be available to correct this otherwise factory machine with original paint?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Bob

I'm not for sure which type of discs typically went with that machine. might be basic , might not.
When someone comes up with the answer, I'll go through my boxes of parts, I have 4 or 5 sets of discs. most look used but,1 set never used. not sure how much of a pain in the butt it is to switch the 3 discs out.

can you read the codes on the discs you have now ? Actually the disc codes & the codes on the reel strips should match up also , any clue what's on the ones coming to you ??

My Melon Bell has slotted discs and also a gold award payout feature.

When 3 melons are hit the gold award token is dispensed.

Dave,
This one has a slotted disk on #1. Nothing matches, I'll have to piece it together.

#2 is the correct CC-424 Melon Bell disk.
#3 original marked CC-424-3A 6-41 (is a CC-209 with a Melon instead of a Gold award about 1/2 way down Bernie Berton Catalogue)

I am looking for a set of replacement strips.
Thanks,
Bob

Has the reel disc been modified in any way, likes some plugs on it? Some times the reel disc have been plugged to change the payout to a lower percentage.

Holes plugged & other holes added is possible too. Specially if it was used at Diamond Jims in down town L.V.
(had several names over the years).

I have decided to look for an original set of '38 Melon Bell reels/disks as a bundle.
It would have the CC-424 strip set on it.
That way it would correct as it left the factory.
If anyone knows of an original configuration set, please let me know.
Thanks,
Bob
