Bursting Cherry - Coins falling behind payout tray

Postby Shane » Sat Apr 27, 2019 1:17 pm

You can see in the two pics below that there are openings on either side of the payout tray. On larger payouts a coin or two will pop out of the tray and through one of these openings landing on the inside of the machine.

Is there supposed to be a cover around this area? I've noticed some Bursting Cherries seem to have a cover here while others don't. Not sure if it was a design flaw or if my machine is missing this piece. Please advise.

Thanks,

Shane

There's a part that covers that gap. It mounts with a couple screws. Dave B probably has them. You see them on ebay in the parts piles from time to time as well.

Thanks. I'll check eBay and/or Dave Berten.

FYI
That particular part was added on later slots of that type to prevent a "Cross Roader" (slot cheat) from stealing coins by a technique that was called "Spooning"!
It was a method to drain the coin tube by activating the payout slides repeatedly!
The added "hood" above the coin tray prevented this!

Monti,

I wondered if this part was added after the fact as it seems that about half of the bursting cherries do not have it. However, the lower casting was tapped for it so maybe my machine originally had one?

Yes,
It probably did and sometime in its life it was probably removed as it does make it a little hard to remove coins paid out so someone may have taken it off during a restoration process rather than replacing the coin cup and ramp completely, who knows!
