Question for the forum
I know this question seems naive, but I can never get it right.
Are all light up Sun Chiefs super delux? (SDX)
Is a solid front Sun Chief just a Sun Chief?
I find this confusing, can a Jennings man step in and help me here?
Thanks

I believe what you call light up Sun Chiefs super deluxe is actually should be a Club Chief Super Deluxe. That is what the tag inside on this machine says.

oldslotman is correct.
Super deluxe club chief has the lights & possible other features (dual tube chief mechanism ), ect. "Sun chief" has the solid front.... no lights.
on the paper tags inside, they can list as sun chief & below it (abbreviated) will state light up or solid front.
these titles are for both the "Chinese front" (as shown) or the later machine style.

I believe the Chinese front light up was the only one called the Club Chief. First light up machine I believe.

I do believe you'rs right oldslotman... club chief =Chinese front (god knows where that title comes from ), then the Sun chief model.
But both could be bought as a chief or super Deluxe.
So on this order form ,what is a "standard chief" then ?

Super Delux is used for a light up machine. Does not matter if it is a club chief or a sunchief.
The standard chief was the "sister" slot to the club chief but with a solid front. It also had a flat indian head aboce the jackpot window.

However, one thing I do not know. Some says that sunchief and sunchief super delux was build up to 1964. But was not the serie sunchief replaced with the model serie Eldorado. Eldorado came out 1959 and the difference to the sun chief was that the top was bigger and also a much bigger award sign in the top.

And yes, a Eldorado with lights was called a Eldorado super delux.

Personaly I like the club chiefs and sun chiefs much more than the Eldorado because I do not like the big topp.

I also think the small jackpot windows looks much better than the big jackpott windows on the sun chiefs. Think this change came around 1954 or 1955 but that change did not change the name. It was still called sun chief serie.

Around that time they also went from solid oak cabinetts to playwood cabinett with faner.

So, I guess that sun chiefs made before 1955 are a much better machine than later modells.

A jennings expert can please correct me if I'm wrong in some facts here.

Ok, so the jennings order is

1. standard chief
2. club chief
3. sunchief
4. eldorado

I always thought that the governor came after the sun chief series?
Wasn't the eldorado the first machine with front access to mechanism?

We need help from, "the league of extraordinary slotmen."

The front openend Jennings is called the Mustang. This I know because I've one and the tag is till there. ny machine is build 1966 so the Mustang serie must have come out 1965 or 1966.

Mustang jenny is to be honest a not good looking machine and value Is low. Maybee upp to 250-300 dollar Maximum but rather under 200.

Maybee the governor is a export serie? or the big J ackpot window?

in one of the books on slots, i THINK was where i read that the lights on the club chief look like chinese characters, hence the name, chinese front.....i never did like that name for these machines, i have to admit, it kind of sends a thought about "made in china" to my brain....and "made in china" IS a warning-lable, you know.
