Mills high top, make offer or pass ?

Postby jsin » Sat May 27, 2017 11:14 am

Hello forum members,

I would like to ask for some insight on this eBay listing. Antique Mills High Top 25 Cent Slot Machine #401329266104

It's located less than an hour from me. Seller asking 1200 and make offer is available. Thinking 1200 may be a bit high considering not 100 % operating and missing back door. What would be a reasonable offer to make ? My intention would be to view it in person first and cash and carry.

Also seller states:
Missing Back Door. Older restoration by Squires & Corrie. A nice looking machine that will need some minor tinkering to play 100%. Should not be a problem to tweak if you are familiar with slots. I did notice a couple of the payout finger springs were missing and there is an old weld repair on one arm of the mechanism. You have to push the handle back a little to get the escalator to return and reset. The machine cycles, reels spin nicely and all 4 clicks present ( should be 5 clicks right ). Sometimes does not payout.

Any red flags while viewing pics. ?

I thank you for your time and response and most importantly thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks
Jsin

It looks pieced together.

I would pass entirely on it.

No back door, no working jackpot, welded up parts. Owner states the machine is not working.

Looks to me like you are buying someone else headache.

From what I see, way too many issues. Stay away. Save your gas, and time. Even $800 would be too much.

Looks to be a real Frankenstein ,with earlier & later era parts in place, missing parts, ect. added paint to the wood via 1925 era. the welded part IS actually a casino reworked part, have many like this in my parts boxes (reason why ?). as already said ,not worth the gas to see it.
tell the seller it's been mentioned on This forum & many issues were pointed out, & restoration cost would be way to high to buy it (at this cost).
save your $$$ for a better machine.

I never met Steve but, hoping that the restoration was minor, including a repaint ect., and all the mixed parts were there when he got it & told not to make it 100% factory. just get up and running & make it look nice.

JHSS-1944 could be but it could also be that this was a Quick outside restoration "make it look beautifull and sell for muchos dinero" to a passing tourist at the shop.
Do not forget it carries the name Squires & Corrie so it should be done proffesionally.....

I do not want to blame Steve but he is a Businessman that does not work or sell cheap since he made that Arab gold Caille with diamonds and pearls :D :D
Both Steve and his companion are very nice guys who give You a warm welcome in their shop, but they have to live also and a quick sell is always welcome i guess

Another thing....
Machines go from hand to hand a lot sometimes AND it could be that this particular machine has been "restored by Squires & Corrie" at a given moment AS IT SHOULD BE
But then it got sold and travelled around the states and got broken and welded by a neighbour friend and the jackpot got used to restore another machine and so on and so on.....
At the end you get a nice looking Slot Machine that STILL carries the metal plaque "restored by Squires & Corrie" but it is actually a plucked carcass!!!!!
That's what would sometimes give a bad name to a shop wich maybe they do not deserve......

how true , how true. I have had seen the over priced parts he has (or sold & forgot to delete from the site) And also see some huge bills on his restorations. almost all of the bills I saw ,were higher than the machine would ever cost. had a few try to sell me slots restored by him, with all the paperwork (nothing wrong with the "look" of those slots), just they were trying to justify their selling price = what I paid back in the day for it ,AND this restoration cost. and were not talking modern day bills but, from many moons ago.

man , if I could make that kind of money per restoration... "solid gold toilet seats for every one !!! " jeff H.
