Monti I did not work with them. I did know of them. I was VP parts division at Squires and Corrie. I did know Auggie at Showboat. We did lots of parts trading. Most of the rest are pretty much gone, Sy, Pappy, Dick, Orin, Bill, I worked with Bill for a while at Joe Welch's museum together, which I guess makes me one of the old guys now. LOL Later

Mechanic - don't forget to reply to Monti!

I've discovered more. Yes this machine definitely had a top light and something else on the inside top left "ceiling" of the machine. A thin plate has been cleanly welded to the top. They did a great job actually. I'm surprised that they (Ancient slots?) took the time to do this instead of just leaving the light there or just placing a cap on the hole. I'll add some pictures when I get home.
I just read a lengthy and interesting article on the bombing at Harveys. I'm curious if THIS machine was in there at the time and then made its way to The Money Tree which then became Eddies and then a nightclub and now, nothing! At least, that's what I've read on the location.

A couple of pictures after the bombing and yes when Harvey Gross re-modeled, which was necessary after the FBI set off the elaborate bomb because they could not disarm it, he sold off all the older slots that were in the casino!
I was about a block away behind the safety line when they blew that puppy and maybe it was my imagination but the building looked like it lifted and settled back down after the blast!

Wow that entire row is all PACE, just like mine. Wait those are dollar machines! But the others perhaps...
What's the red box on the top left for?

That Red Box held a meter which counted all the jackpots paid out and in some casinos had a unit inside that would stamp date, time and amount of the Jackpot when it was played off as the attendant inserted a card into it so the Floorman or Change Person could keep track of the money in their change bank or casino floor cashiers cage and tally all jackpots paid out!
The change persons floor bank or the cashiers cage had to maintain a specific total at end of their shift or their job was in jeopardy!
It was part of the accounting system!
And in addition if the slot machine showed little play because the coin bucket was low when the "Drop" was taken but numerous payouts on the meter the mech would be pulled to inspect as there was either a problem with the mech or a "Cross Roader" was cheating the machine!

I can't begin to tell you how many of those red totalizers we scrapped. After they left the casino they had no practical use so they were removed before we began refinishing the cabinets. Same happened to old Mills Hi-top machines all the CI-CO meters were scrapped.

I hear ya mechanic!
On the Harrah's Club Pace's when I refurbed one at the customers discretion and desires I would sometimes leave the unit on the top of the slot as it was part of the candle assembly, bell and wiring harness like this one here!
Bill Harrah kept these old Pace's going for many years and seeing the way they welded & glued the innards to keep them going was interesting, the old slot mechanics did some strange stuff to them to keep them on the floor!
Being based in the Lake Tahoe/ Northern Nevada area these were abundant in my shop in the 80's/90's!
Heck, I've still got these laying around the shop!

Thanks for the great information Monti and Mechanic. Yes I can see from the inside of my machine all the areas where various things used to be.
I'd love to have that Harrahs machine "laying around my shop"! I love that look and the feel of that era by the style of machines.
I need to take that drive up north eventually!

Aancient Slots besides being in Las Vegas had a small store for a while in either the Sahara or later when it became the High Sierra Casino in South Shore, Stateline at Lake Tahoe. They had a ton of these "open fronts" with wood bases from not only Eddies Fabulous Fifties, but Fitzgerald's Club too. I believe A & P Slots (Kelly Peccole??) was within walking distance of Eddie's at one time too.

Interesting you mention the owners of A & P Slots in downtown Reno on Virginia Street in the heart of the casino area as Bob and his wife Kelly Pecolle owned and operated it after he retired from an extensive gaming career!
Used to go in and see him in the 80's/90's and he had some great stories about the "Good Old Days"!
He was also a part owner in the Cal-Neva in North Lake Tahoe in the late 60's shortly after Frank Sinatra had it
and lost his gaming license due to being a front man for the mob!
Interesting story there as well!
Bob had a very long career in gaming!
And yes, thanks for reminding me about Aancient Slots having a small sales location at Stateline Nevada South Shore in the Sahara/High Sierra and I believe they had a location in the old MGM in Reno in the basement shopping area as well!
Mike A. in Vegas used to work for Aancient Slots back in the day as a slot mechanic and Tom Krahl bought out all their parts in, I think, the mid to late 90's when they went out of business which now all belong to Squires & Corrie in San Mateo after Tom's passing a few years ago!
