Pictured on page 31 of the Silent Sales Men Too book by Bill Enes. Made by Coast Vending Inc. 1957. You may find markings on the machine with the letters "CVI" Early machines had a glass globe but they were replaced with plastic due to breakage. Enes states that the glass globes are a rare find. There are two versions of this machine. Yours & one that has five cups on the face of the basketball I guess the cups catch the gumballs. The value is $125.00 on the 1996 price guide. There is a later price guide available.

Thank you very much for the info. I have had this for a while now, and never thought about selling it until now.

Here is another slight variation of the same machine, with a steel enclosed gumball compartment.
Most likely a later version. Could also be a 'copy-cat' mfr., as the lower front controls are changed.

The second machine pictured was listed in the original Silent Salesman as a mystery machine (maker unknown).
However, in SS Too, Enes states it is also by Coast Vending, Inc. and was actually the forerunner to the first machine pictured above by a couple years.
It has a simpler sheet metal design and a flat glass front.
I have one that is near mint condition and will list it on Flebay when I clean out the shed this Spring.

I never even checked my Enes books for this machine. But I did just check John Carini's book, and on page 48, he shows
two other Coast Venders. A Football version, with 5 pockets, having the same wraparound clear plastic globe, and a
Baseball version, having 5 pockets, with a solid metal back, and partial sides. It also has a slightly longer chute cover
than the Football machine. It's amazing just how many little changes these mfrs. made during the production periods.
It is also interesting that Enes mentions the later looking full sheet metal case being the forerunner to the others. #-o

THanks for all the info. I was feeling that the sheet metal one was an earlier or the first version that was improved on.
