Groetchen Champion Reel information.

Postby JHSS-1944 » Thu Jan 26, 2017 2:05 am

Hello all;
This is a continuation of the topic of the Groetchen Champion / Sparks machine (restoration help section).
in attempting to help there, realized how different this machine actually works , so I looked it over a bit more & thought it a very interesting design in how it works. Observations I found on this version I own.
symbol combinations as shown = 13,824 (24 X 24 X 24).
symbol combinations in Actual play = 1,728 (12 X 12 X 12).
possible win combinations ,"Notches" = 2,376 ( 9 X 12 X 22). (if my math is off ,P.M. me & I'll fix it).
4 random photos of the 12 stop , sensing arm , notches...

Next , a Short study of where the sensing arm lands on the disc (#1). I picked the Champion bar for the other discs ,as it is a known winner (notch in the disc.).
The Number 2 disc is really a dominant over rider to ensure other win combinations Don't happen. the arm assembly will pivot forward or backwards to follow the end of the notch. hence all 3 sensing arms follow suit.

And lastly disc 3. note how far ,or close some get to a winning notch. Also how many land in the same spot. some actually looked like they really didn't land exactly in the same spot but , very close.
There is far to many other combinations , so this is as far as I'm going with this.
think if you got one of these ,& the disc wasn't spot welded on "just right" to the reel tin; you would never win anything.
just a "fast" study of this machine. I hope those who don't own one ,like the information, and found it interesting. I don't own any other Trade Simulators, so no clue on similarities between this one & others.

OH, a key to the arrows; where it points to is where the sensing arm actually stops. see how many are at the top of the notch opening only... Not a winner.

Jeff, Jeff, Jeff:
You need to get out of the house more often. Go to the target range, and work on some tighter groups! :D
You have spent way too many hours going into super-detail, on this "Champion" reel strip configuration so
far, which many of our readers probably don't care about.
As for me, I am into this sort of thing, and appreciate all your hard work. In fact, I am saving all your scans
into a special file, that has other similar material. Maybe I shouldn't tell you this, but all the Daval token-pay
machines, have the exact same style reels like the Groetchen. (Photo of Daval set below). Also, not all reel
sets are the same. There are different notch patterns for some special symbol strips.
I still don't know how soon it will be, that I can come up with a solution of workable reel strips for the owners
machine as yet. The set on the machine now, is too far off to easily alter. I have gone through all my stock of
original items, that haven't been printed yet, and do not have this exact set. Yes, I could make them up from
scratch, but that is not my way. I have always used Original material to work with. Another big problem with
the strips in question here is, if you don't have a like-new flawless set to work with, there is much touch-up to
do on all the symbols having a dark spot in the center of each symbol, from the pay-bars hitting them, where a
hole is not present, as can be seen in the pics above. I have even seen reels that have a continuous stripe up the
center of the strip, or have even been torn, because of this feature.
And the beat goes on!

SLOT DYNASTY; Trust me ,I have to many hobbies besides these machines. Always working on something.
And this was in my free time ,Yep I have a full time job still (kinda eats up most of my time....).

interesting on the Daval tins being the same ,but nice. I assumed there would be variations in the "discs" / reel strips, like most other machines. Question is , how many ?
yes ,I know what you mean on "making your own" strips from scratch.... I had to do that with a mills high top (token bell). could only find 2 of 3 strips out there for sale ,plus none had the gold back round color these had.
Machine badly altered at the casino with added & removed reel strip pieces, & after all these years all in bad shape. my next reel strip project; late 1950's pace = Harrah's club (reno) Jack Pot only machine. strips in plastic, totally dis colored, ect. I should have never bought this piece of junk. need to fix it just enough to sell it.
I'll try to spend more time out side......

Thanks for all your time putting this together. Are you saying your Champion is a 9 - 12 - 22 stops?
