Jennings help

Postby md171 » Wed Oct 26, 2016 9:36 am

I have an early 20's Jennings Operators Bell deferred pay machine. Had a nickel jam and started poking around. Looked like a nickel got stuck, somehow cause it wasn't really visible from behind and cleared after another coin was deposited, in the coin chute under the gooseneck. That cleared I noticed a small coin box with nickels in it - sadly glued once upon a time to a stationary arm. Never noticed it before. What is this box for? One pic shows the box just under the top gooseneck. One shows the nickels therein.

Thanks in advance.

If that dark piece of metal just above the coin box
Is magnetic I bet its to catch slugs the magnet pulls out of the
coin mechinism.
Looking for survivor machines especially vendor fronts or original side vendors with or without
a machine. 1920's-30's goosenecks, round escalators. I enjoy hand painting the castings.

I agree with Richard and yes it is a slug cup!
The magnet would pull a slug just enough to swing it into the slug cup and the magnet was adjustable just enough to control the amount of pull to accomplish the task!

Good point. Didn't think of that. Just checked and no magnet. No even minor draw like it once may have been. I dunno how that coin box would even catch anything unless that there was a magnet there at some point.

Here is the back side of the one I just bought. Uh oh no magnet or coin box but this was a re vamp machine so could have been removed when revamped. Also this is serial number 844 so maybe was before magnet added?? I think it's a 1922 machine and it too has the defer pay arm in it.

Nice looking machine. But if this is a future pay or deferred pay machine, where is the small window showing next play pay out?

Just wondered,
Flip.
