Just picked up this Jennings Victoria vendor and have been wondering what this brass plate is on the side? It sure lloks old and the carriage bolts go through the cabinet but there are not any holes that the plate is covering. There is a spot on the other side that looks like it had one as well...only the bolt holes. Any ideas on what they are for. Also looking for a picture of the original cashbox. I believe the reel strips are from another slot as well as they aren't fortune telling strips and they say rockola on them but are the reels the correct for a jennings of this era? Thanks Herb!

It's a Rock Ola revamp;
note the difference in design of the lower front casting as compared to a Jennings Victoria FV.

Would the front casting have a rockola part number ? Mone is hard to read but it looks to be v1-15a model-f

Interesting machine for sure and a keeper as well. IMHO and I'm not a self professed expert but wasn't the purpose of a revamp to add a jackpot and "modernize" the machine? If Jennings made the Victoria for two years only why would David Rockola have the machine front cast with the 1932 date dragging back to the past? Could be a revamp but I'm just asking is all.
Looking for survivor machines especially vendor fronts or original side vendors with or without
a machine. 1920's-30's goosenecks, round escalators. I enjoy hand painting the castings.

Not always; the revampers did their work for many different reasons;
e.g. add or remove a mint vender (or other feature), make minor changes, overhaul a mech, put their own identity on a machine, change of ownership/operator, etc.
For a period of time, many machines without JPs were revamped to add a JP front and that's probably where you got that mistaken impression.

Jennings made the Victoria in several configurations; JP with no FV; JP with FV; JP with reserve JP and FV, etc,
but the the design on the front casting of this machine does not look like Jennings to me.

I did locate another slot just like this one via google and it has the standard Jennings fortune telling reel strips. Any guesses on the recessed areas on each side where the plate is and where the other one was?

just a "flat plate" ? lower or upper edge sharp ? thinking part of a bracket to hold a sign (of some sort) above the machine. I know it sounds stupid, but.....

could it be a plate to stop cheats drilling through the side as they did in later timber sided machines to manipulate payout arms. In the 60's we placed stainless steel plates inside the machines to prevent the drilling through the sides of the machines. Don't know if and when this plate might have been affixed as battery drills would not have been availabke when this machine was manufactured. The drill was tiny fixed to a finger with a ring and small motor. They would drill a tiny hole and insert piano wireto hook slide arms but I think the plate would have to be a lot lower.Just a though!!!

Hi
Hummm , I don t think that his a Rockola revamp !
Jennings made a lot of different Victoria version ,and only in 2 years !
You can see some of them on this very nice site . :-D
http://www.retro-jackpot.fr/com-phocaga ... s/victoria
This model is the model “F” ,made in 1932 ( I know ,that was easy ). The last model in this Victoria style , except for the “Electrojax” (1933). After , coming the century( Victoria model “G” ) and the peacock (Victoria model H ).
You can found some info in the very nice book “Jennings Slot Machines 1906/1990” from Dick Bueschel !

About the two side "flat plate" , I think the same than JHSS-1944 !
Some slot machine in France have two holes on each side ,with or without "flat plate" and was for hold a top sign like this !
