Ideas for stand for slot machine or building one?

Postby berardini21 » Tue Jan 17, 2017 10:25 am

I cant justify spending $400 on a nice stand when thats more or as much as my machines cost me, any ideas for stands for these? I have two and the one in my living room is on a nightstand and looks cheesey, the other I bought yesterday and is sitting on my dining room table until I find some ideas. Thanks

I think I posted poor mans slot stand here last year. Not at home now or would send you some photos.
Looking for survivor machines especially vendor fronts or original side vendors with or without
a machine. 1920's-30's goosenecks, round escalators. I enjoy hand painting the castings.

. . . don't know where you are, but here in Ohio there's a place in Mansfield that sells nice oak stands made locally by the Amish starting at $259. Website is http://www.midohioslotmachines.com . I agree -- that's a lot of doubloons to pay for a simple wooden stand but a beautiful slot machine looks pretty silly on a coffee table!

I just paid $300 for a slot machine, $350 for a stand shipped is intimidating!

Shipping is not cheap but I opened account at fed ex and it's 1/2 or LESS than it used to cost me. Not trying to hijack the thread but I'm in western suburbs of Chicago if anyone needs something looked at picked up and shipped.

If you are handy with wood, you can make a stand like this for about $100. Buy a door already made and build the cabinet. Sides are 3/4 inch plywood with solid 3/4 inch oak on the front. A little trim work and a top. You can make the top out of anything, wood or even granite.

Could also go get an unfinished kitchen cabinet at home depot and put any kind of top on it and then stain and finish as you like for about that or less too. Go to a counter top or granite place and buy a sink cut out and have them finish three or four edges too.

I like using old wooden sheet music cabinets or record cabinets. You can find them affordably on craigslist or flea markets.

I've used old sewing machine cabinets. The ones with a full oak cabinet. Usually some trim work on the door.
My favorite was a record cabinet . It needed refinishing. I found the stained glass of an owl at an antique shop. The glass isn't old, but is a close match of a Mills owl..
The sewing machine cabinets can be picked up pretty cheap. The last one was 25 bucks and still had the sewing machine I can sell.
