Back after five years....

Postby OneArmBandito » Fri Feb 17, 2017 1:34 pm

Man, how time flies. I'm starting to think about a c50 machine. There's just something about those big coins. There's a couple on eBay right now but they seem overpriced. My one slot is a c25 Mills high top (plain Jane).

I watch ebay everyday and see the same overpriced slots sometimes month after month. I have bought two "off" ebay recently. (5c and 25c)....via contacting the owners and picking up in person. I too would love a 50c or even a dollar slot but...baby steps. Good luck on your search.

Correct , you seem to see the same ones for ever up for sale, to high to buy. I've noticed far few slots actually up for sale last few months, & the sellers have no interest in budging on the prices. also, none seem to know anything about what they got , few photos , and told countless times " I'm afraid to take the mechanics out for photos , might break something , ect,".
if I get off my butt ,I have a dollar pace waiting for me.

Dollar slots - Go big or go home, eh ? I guess you use Ikes in that ?
Would it be fair to say dollar machines would have the least wear ?

Brian- Tsk tsk, that's against the TOS ! Can't imagine buying a slot sight unseen, tho.

Are there knockoffs/ repros of Mills high tops ?

Actually the auctions have ended with no bids at their price so I should be ok. That dollar face would be a fun machine. Might be a little expensive to feed even if you can get the Ikes for face value at the bank. I know around here even 50c are hard to get anymore.

Can't get Ike dollars at the banks here. Tried to order some but no luck. Can still get 50c but I had to order $500 worth.

Personally I like the more common denomination slot machines, quarter, dime, nickle and even penny, as part of the fun in having the slot machines is when friends come over is their being able to pull coins out of their pocket to play your machines!
You can make a little side money that way, right? =D>
50 cent coins are very scarce and on the dollar slots you can use old casino tokens in dollar size like the casinos used in their dollar slots but they are usually a little expensive to purchase as some of them are collectible!
But that is just my penny for thoughts!

find banks near retirement areas , they always have 50 cent coins , some dollar coins.
You can buy cruise ship dollar tokens, same as what the casinos used but ,much cheaper to buy.... but no history behind them either.
in theory ,I don't think there's a "reproductions of mills high tops". but many other companies , Buckley,Auto bell, ect. revamped them , along with most of the casinos. many converted to "jackpot only" , the J.P. system will be gone on these, ect., ect.

I started reading (again) Daves article on spotting fakes. It states that high top c25 Mills were reproduced, but does that include the plane Janes like mine ?
Short clip of my machine:
https://youtu.be/-u5pE-yzh3A
The article also states there should be a casting # on the front near the top. I can't find one.
Now the mech seems to be for real (detector arms both horizontal and vertical).
The old man I bought it from also had a c10 of the same variety and he claimed that it was his job to maintain machines before he retired.
I discovered a small machine bolt on one of the star wheels that kept the machine from hitting three bars (I removed it).
It still won't pay the jackpot behind the glass. Haven't been able to figure out why.
On a side note, I bought a $1k bag of fifty cent pieces from the bank that has a coin machine. In it I found 82 %40 halves and one %90 half. The rest I rolled up in newspaper $10 rolls.
Thanks for the replies guys.

nice you found coins for it. the "detecting arms" were often removed by machines played out side the U.S. ,so that part of the article, is not 100 % correct, with a few other things = always an exception to the rule ,after being in someone else's hands / casino.
trip lever bent on the J.P. ??
