Been watching this machine for awhile (which is not a good sign hasn't sold), He's at 2200 but my question is that the outside has been done over not in the typical color scheme of a horse head which raises concerns and I'm not sure that it's has hidden problems. I offered him 1500 which was shot down. I think it's a nice looking machine but that decreases the valve if the paint job is hiding maybe some re welds. I also notice the mint vendor plate was missing, I know some didn't have it. So looking for some input I'm on the fence thinks it's way to much money for not original. Thanks folks

This is an original color scheme for the Horse Head Bonus. As you said, the castings have been repainted. See below picture of original paint.

Agree with YourBestBet. Here is my original HH BONUS with same original paint. Many of these later paint scheme HHs were war time so cast iron. Something for you to check. Mine plays noticeably smooth partly because the castings are so heavy. Also normal not to have the side vender plate this late. Mine does not. Flip.

What would be a reasonable price now that I feel more confident about the casting painted

"What should I pay" is always a controversial question. You would be well advised to invest the small payment for the short term Dave's sold prices access. That will clearly provide you the range. For a nice ORIGINAL HH Bonus with good mech and good bonus functionality, $2000 is realistic IMHO. Flip.

I think a good working original HORSE HEAD BONUS is worth 2 k.
I sold a 10 cent High Top BONUS last year for 2100.00

Quick follow up finally spoke with the owner of the machine nice guy, he explained to me that the machine is a WWII production and is made from cast iron which makes it a lot heavier and that's why it's painted the colors the cast iron cannot be polished out. He seem to be a straight up so I'm going to take a look at it. Unfortunately he's not budging on the price he's firm at 2K. (Hate to pay retail), but this is the 3rd HH Bonus I've seen and the last 2 were so bad and the asking price was also insane I walked away from both. So thanks to all for your input.

Is the cast iron 25 cent HHB machine more valuable than the nickel ones?

I'm not 100% but I think the cast iron only were made for dimes and nickels.

Mills made the cast iron horse head in all denominations. If the machine you have in your first picture is mechanically sound, parts are all there, and the restoration was done right, I think $2k for a 5 cent horse head bonus is a fair price.
