eBay Sweepstake Chief

Postby vest pocket » Sat May 24, 2014 3:38 pm

I was looking around eBay and saw this machine that has been up for a couple weeks (i think), but i never opened it because of the price and the gold and black paint job was a turn off. I decided to look at it today and saw some interesting items. The Quarters sitting where the escalator is supposed to be caught my eye as well as the back door and bonnet. I am rather new here and read a lot about repo machines, mostly mills. How frequent do these surface? Thanks for any help, the more you all share, the more us rookies can learn!

the asking price on this machine is about 8 1/2 times it's worth.
it appears to be a retired... with the accent on TIRED, casino machine fro the RIVIERA CASINO... if not just a parts machine.
escalator is gone.
jackpot may, or may not be gone.
i am not sure exactly when, but, NEVADA GAMING COMMISSION enacted a law sometime in the past that stated (this is not verbatim) that a jackpot amount had to be exact, and known in advance of play. so, some casino machines will have a jackpot in them, but it has been made inoperable, some older machines may have a working jackpot, and, some may have a dummy jackpot. .
if you look closely at the picture showing the back of the mechanism, you will see that the original sliders that hold the mech in place on the sub-base have been replaced with 2 non-original pieces of black steel and non-original screws.
back bonnet appears to be home-made / casino shop made.
back door is not original.
obvious repaint. these machines were always chrome plated from the factory.
could this machine be restored? yes. hardest part to find would be the back bonnet.
at the price seller is looking to get this is a good one to walk away from unless you are truly mad at your money.
there are plenty of clean, straight machines available for far less money.

I agree with Midcoast Vending, this machine is a disaster. The price of this one is way out of line for what it is. Sweepstake Chief's are somewhat more uncommon than a Sun Chief. They use the same wiring as a Prospector and because of that they are NEVER Reproduced. You can certainly find a Good One for less money than this one. I have been selling off some of my Jennings Collection. I have a few Sweepstake Chief's remaining. Mine are on the upper end of the price scale but they are all Extremely Righteous machines. If you really want a good one send me a note. I can certainly do better on price privately verses what I sell them for on ebay.
