HOKEY ?? SLOT MACHINE FOR SALE ON EBAY

Postby Midcoast Vintage » Sat Aug 16, 2014 2:21 pm

I COULD BE WRONG... BUT THIS LOOKS LIKE A 3 DOLLAR BILL TO ME.
I believe the reward bib to be from a buckley machine, as i have had a few of them with this identical reward bib.
And, i believe the tokens on the front may be from a casino called the bonanza... i haven't heard of that particular casino, but, there are lots of things i have never heard of... but the tokens on the front came from somewhere, so they are probably real... but as to whether this machine was ever in said casino... i have my doubts.
anybody ever seen one these before?
correct me if i'm wrong, and, if i am... MY APOLOGIES TO THE SELLER.

Bonanza casino in Reno opened in 1973 so I don't think they would have had this type of a machine. Another pipe dream of someone.

There is a very slight possibility that a machine like this, could have been in the Bonanza Casino, in Virginia City, Nev., as they
were in operation at the time. Don't have records of an opening date, in my archives. The first Bonanza Casino in Las Vegas,
opened it's doors in July of 1967, and after 3 years, went into bankruptcy, and was demolished. That was later the site of the
MGM Grand Casino - Hotel. This was during the beginnings of the electro-mechanical slots, so they would have not been in use
there, unless they had some made-up for display only. The Bonanza Casinos in Reno, and Fallon were also later. He states that
this one came from the Reno Bonanza, which didn't open til 1973.

I do not know any historical facts on this model, but what this machine appears to be, is a special made-up example, using a
"Diamond Front", because of the exact same placement of the coins. Hopefully we don't start getting inundated with a whole
new batch of these, to play partnership with all the FAKE Golden Nuggets, as well as the Phoney Golf and Baseball versions.
All we need now, to complete the series, is a Beer version, with a recast Pace jackpot plastered on the front. :^o

Base plate appears to be missing a section just above the pump and the reel strips have no Bonanza Bars just the regular mills bar. Also have screws hold the front payout bib on. Newer cabinet also. I would like to see the insides to see how they mounted the tokens.

Auction was apparently cancelled and re-listed.

as i mentioned in the original post, the reward bib is from a BUCKLEY BONANZA SLOT MACHINE.
I went to google images and typed in BUCKLEY BONANZA SLOT MACHINE.
Here are the results, which clearly chow this is a buckley reward bib, and that the subject machine is definately a FANTASY MACHINE.

I contacted the Bonanza casino, here is their reply;

"We cannot authenticate that this slot machine was every used at the Bonanza Casino. It is from a line of “Bonanza” slot machines; but that does not mean it was ever on our property. Our ownership (original) does not recall this type of machine ever being here. More concerning is that it appears this slot machine was altered by a private party. Those dollar tokens that are adorned all over the front of the slot machine are approximately circa 1979 (when the Federal government stopped minting Ike dollars). Those are our tokens, but we would have never had altered a machine in this way. Quite frankly, had we the public would have pried them off. I would be concerned about what kind of damage has been done to the front of the machine by however those tokens were affixed to the front. This would certainly hurt the antique value of the slot machine."

I'll also pass this on to the seller.

it will be interesting to see the sellers response.
it would also be interesting to see the bonanza casino, and the golden nugget take action against these sellers for fraudulent use of a copyrighted trademark.
perhaps that would cut down on the fake machines.
