RARE JOHN CALER PIRATE SLOT MACHINE FIGURE FOR SALE ON EBAY

Postby Midcoast Vintage » Sun Jun 07, 2015 7:59 pm

Not sure, but, i believe this to be one of the few slot figures made by the late, great, JOHN CALER.
As i recall, this is the one that made to resemble John's oldest son, Mark Caler.
PLEASE NOTE: I AM IN NO WAY AFFILIATED WITH THE SALE OF THIS MACHINE.

You are correct, the Pirate was the one John made in the likeness of his son, Mark. Unfortunately, I don't think this is one John made. The same guy that made the repro Jennings Witches bought John's old fiber glass molds and has made a few Pirates and 1 or 2 Robots. Originally John made these to run on location in casinos and not to sell to the public. I don't think he would make an English penny but the machine could have been switched out I guess.

That is the people from baggage wars tv show . They made a parking lot deal and bought that from the winner at the 2014 VCA auction . They filmed it in the parking lot . Not sure if it ever made it to air .

Just a guess, they bought it from the guy who
made it who had bought it back.

Watlingboy: You are correct indeed. This is not one of Johns, as his actually looked like Mark, where this one
is not a perfect likeness. This is one of the biggest problems with Repro's. Most aren't close to originals, and
generally look like CRAP! Which is a good thing for us, that can tell the difference, but it's the poor Newbie
that 'takes it in the shorts' when a machine is misrepresented. Look at all the Total Reproduction Rockola
"Official Sweepstakes", that this same person has been snookering people with for so long. They are not done
perfectly, and missing key parts, and it's pure laziness on the part of the re-builder. There were changes that
Rockola did with both gum & non-gum models over the years, and this person does not know what they were,
and quite frankly, doesn't care.

One of the Worst of all known FAKE machines, is the Mills "Golden Nugget", aka "Golden Magget". The low
volume of the originals that were produced by Mills, were only done ONE WAY. All of the Fakes, are not done
exactly like the originals, and are missing key features, but most of the people that slap these together, using
other common models, do not want to spend the extra bucks to do them exact, (which again I say, is good for
the seasoned, but not the newbies). They only replace the original trim castings, with cheap repro's, and new
reel strips, and 'away they go', off to market. About one out of a hundred will have the correct color scheme.
They have been every color of the rainbow, along with candy-colors, and metalflake. 99.9% of all "Nugget's" on
the market, are FAKE, but the sellers continue to lie about 'how original they are'. It's all for 'GREED'. :^o
