Interesting article about fakes on eBay

Postby Dave » Mon Feb 26, 2007 1:43 pm

I ran across this article today. It is about how a guy has been selling fake stamps to stamp collectors for over 9 years.

It appears eBay knows about him as well as the FBI.

eBay appears to be addressing the problem only because the SCADS ( Stamp Collectors Against Dodgy Sellers) organization repeatedly hounded eBay.

The FBI appears to be doing nothing.

I know eBay has done virtually nothing against the people who repeatedly sell fake slots and trade stimulators on their stire.

Just out of curiosity, I went to the Stamp Collectors Against Dodgy Sellers web site last night (http://www.scads.org/).

Those boys take their stamp collecting seriously!

They actually have a Hall of Shame page that lists the names of dealers who have used various unethical or questionable selling or listing practices, such as:

offering stamps using images stolen from other listings or auction sites
selling altered stamps not described as such
repeatedly misidentifying stamps
repeatedly offering stamps without describing faults
when informed of misdescriptions, reacting adversely (impolite or belligerent) or ignoring advice
