Cadet vs. Commander

Postby marsonion » Thu Aug 30, 2012 10:47 am

I thought maybe some people could use some help telling the difference between Caille Cadets and Caille Commanders, because the good people at VCA obviously can't. There are two "Cadet" models advertised for auction in October:

1) http://www.victoriancasinoantiques.com/item.php?id=5698

2) http://www.victoriancasinoantiques.com/item.php?id=5538

Compare these to the illustrated Caille ads Bueschel reprinted in his 100MCSM books. Hope this helps!

Yes; these two models are very similar and I've seen others confuse them as well.
I have just one Cadet and sometimes find myself calling it a Commander.

Wait a minute; I have a Commander and sometimes call it a Cadet.

Never mind; I need to go have another look at it.

Count yourself an "expert," because most people call 'em all "Doughboys" and leave it at that.

:P

BTW, what do you suppose is "very similar," besides the round jackpot? Every casting (top, front, reel window) is different, so are the trim styles and coin cup/tray. Are you truly confused by the appearance of these two models-- ?
