I just finished up on the Royal Twin. Only took 8 months!
It took a while trying to find what the correct paint scheme is. From the research I have done, it appears there are two paint schemes on these machines and two styles of castings. It appears the early machines were pretty much polished and only the grooved areas and the areas around the wording on top was painted. The later machines were pretty much painted all blue.
The earlier machines had the top castings flat on the bottom where the later machines were slanted on the bottom.
The machine I bought had been in someones basement for 30+ years and it appears someone attempted to do a restoration but didn't complete it. The mechanism was pretty much all froze up and the castings had all been stripped. Fortunately, the machine was almost all complete so I didn't have to hunt down many parts.
The handle mechanism is pretty simple and very ingenious on how it locks out the mechanism from being played if no coin had been played.
Removing the mechanism from the machine is a PIA though. Not just lift and pull like virtually every other machine out there.
Here is the final result. The actual color of the paint is a lighter blue.
