Mills Roman Head Penny project

Postby oldslotman » Wed Jun 25, 2014 8:24 am

One more machine to add to my to do list. Mills Roman Head 1 cent machine. Still had a bunch of wheat pennies and even a few 1943 steel pennies in it. 2/4 payout with gold award. I believe it is an early 1930's machine.

The gold award is in it but it is missing a few parts which I have already located and are on their way. It has the gold award reel strips and reel bundle.

That is good, the Gold Award parts seem to be plentiful and easy to find - it is the Gold Award reel bundle that often missing and can be hard to locate.

Trying to figure out the colors used on the roman head. This one looks like a purple , yellow and it's hard to tell what the other color is. From pictures that I have seen it looks to be a gray or cream or off white color. I've seen others with a I believe a blue and gray combo with a polished head. I really like the look of the polished head but not with the purple color and I don't think any came polished from the factory. Any suggestion guys. I don't think I've ever seen two painted the same.

I finally got around to emptying out the coin tube. Dates on the Pennines ranged from 1916 to 1950 . No coins newer than 1950.

Recently found one as well. Mine has the fortune strips and is all original as well. I am going through same thought process of purple versus blue and polished head versus painted. Maybe we can compare progress and result thought I might be a year in finishing mine with all of the projects ahead of it. Just fun to play as is!

At least yours is playable. Mine does not function very good. Once I get started it should only be a week or two. Good luck.

Got it done. Not 100% original but the face could be painted anytime to make it closer to original. I was able to save a lot of the detail on the sides.
