Storage unit full of antiques

Postby Dave » Wed Aug 31, 2016 10:11 am

Greetings from somewhere in Utah.

Yesterday I bought a storage unit full of antique slots and 1 pinball.

Rented a big ass truck and am headed home to Colorado.

This is a deal I have been working on for about 6 weeks.

Details to be posted later.

All I will say is that these things are big and not three reelers.

As you know, I like the weird and unusual and this stuff qualifies.

Dave:
Well, they surely can't be a load of "Big Bertha's", cuz ya can't fit many in that 'little-ass' truck.
You have to get out on the road a bit more often, if you think that's a 'big-ass' truck. #-o
Anyhow, we are waiting patiently for your "Large" display of new treasures. Consoles perhaps?
Hopefully some models that we don't see often, or maybe not at all. Oh-Oh! Here comes that
word "Rare" again! Then again, maybe the word will fit the situation. Congrats on your new find.

Wondering about how many washing machines or dryers or mattresses and box springs were in that unit?

Here is one of the machines.

It is a JJ Parker craps machine.

There were a total of 4 in the storage unit.

The other three have already been sold and delivered. There was also a pinball in the unit which I bought and sold.

This was the nicest one. I have not yet fired it up.

Hopefully Freddy or Bill or ? can provide some history on this machine.

It is early 60's and I think inspired from the Acme Roulette.

I remember playing one of these in a dump called the Jolly Trolly casino in Vegas back in 1981. The place us now a big gift shop called The Bonanza.

Check out the size of the hopper in this thing.

Hi Dave,
I think you are right about the ACME connection, it is my understanding that the Roulette and possibly the Dice games was developed by Doc Kaufman, Bob Harpling and Jack Lavignia, Jack was the Bally distributor in 1961 in Southern Nevada, Bob was the Field serviceman for Bally and Doc was Bally's "Man on the ground" in Nevada, they all claim that the funding came from Chicago, but would not mention any names, it turned out that it was Billy O'Donnell, there were 11 ACME Rouletes sent to Las Vegas for testing, but the percentages were too high, and the rest of those games were put into a Chicago warehouse, never to be seen again.

I am sure the Dice game was developed from the same team with the exception of Jack Lavignia who sold his interest to Mickey Wichinsky, who in turn gave Billy O'Donnell the idea to incorporate the hopper into a slot machine, the outcome was the Commando model, Mickey put 8 of these into the Sands Casino, after the first week, they fell to pieces, Bob Harpling and Doc Kaufman redisgned this model , they changed the 110 volt circuits into 50 volt circuits and redesigned the cabinet and handle assembly, the outcome of that was the model 742 also known as the Money Honey, and slot machine history was made once again.

Find attached pictures of the Dice model that Acme Novelty Co, made, you may want to compare the dice system on your machine to their one, or indeed some of the other components.

You had a Great find.

Freddy:

Like I said, there were 4 of these machines. All were slightly different. One of them is identical to the picture you posted. I once owned an Acme Roulette and the knob on the front of the machine was identical to the one you showed. That is why I assumed there was some connection to Acme.

It was clearly the earliest of the models.

Once I get my machine going I will probably go help the guy who bought the other three.

Stay tuned for my progress on getting the machine going. I have verified that all motors work and the relays appear to be in very good condition.

It is not yet working but I hope it is just some bad connections.
