Texas55; first ,Welcome to the forum !!
Actually know it , no. but, one would assume more than 1 made at the time. to much work in the coin denomination plate ,ect. for just one machine. now in saying that , at any given time, these converted Golden nugget machines were few on the floor to start with. a number batted around for awhile was only 20 or so machines actually on the floor in the whole casino actually converted. All the rest would be the standard flavor machines that anybody would have. now I believe that number is a bit low but, who knows.

needs a little tlc via the photos but, Very nice looking machine And any one here would be happy to own it.
Please wait for one of the experts on this machine specifically to reply. few here ,know a great deal on these Golden nuggets.

Thank you for posting photos on this forum of your slot machine !!
any casino serial number ??

Hi texas55:
Welcome to our Forum.
I will start off by saying that "I am a Total Expert" on all FAKE "Golden Nugget" machines. As I have said
many times in the past, "99.9% of all Golden Nuggets on eBay, live auctions, and elsewhere, are FAKE".
On the other hand, I am Not an expert on the originals, but do know quite a bit about them. As much as
you might want to think your dime machine is the only one, that's not going to happen, as the manufacturer
would not make just one of any denomination, due to tooling changes. But the Casino number 'D6' on your
front escalator glass, tells me that your machine is number 6 for that location. I haven't yet been able to
acquire enough serials to determine just how many originals of each model were built, but we are making
some headway via this Forum. There are four different styles of originals. There are three HalfTop models.
The more common 'Dolls & Nuggets', 'Aikens Front', (like yours), and a Buckley case version. There is also
a HighTop model.
What I would like to see a photo of on yours, is the back of the mechanism, and inside the case. There will
be a sticker on the inside wall, with the serial number in the 500,000 range. There should also be a sticker
on the flat crossbar, that goes across the back of the mechanism, that the reel brakes attach to, that will
have the 'D6' machine number, with a date, and some models have a metal tag on the screw to the right,
with the 'D6' number as well.
You have a great collectable, that you should be proud of. Noting that there are less dime machines that
were made, as most were nickel, and fewer quarter, from current records. If anything, just clean your
machine up a bit, if needed. DO NOT attempt to do any restoration work on it, as it will lessen it's value.

I am not an expert on these ... and correct me if I am wrong ... I feel the only slots from this era that has the full metal wrap around on the base, were original Golden Nugget machines. I have , in my 40 years of slot work, never seen that wrap around on any other machine. To me, that is the very first thing I look for when someone say they have an original. Freddy Bailey can chime in on this .... has more knowledge on slots than I do, or anyone else I know .... hats off to my friend. Slot D ... let me know of the other styles.... all I have been exposed to is the wrap around metal cover on the base. I am glad to learn more from others here.... Love keeping an open mind

Hi,
Like Dave say's the wrap around base is most unusual, we must keep in mind that most of the Las Vegas casino's had their own workshops, and very had Knowledgible service engineers, this could be something that they did "In-House" but if I was you, I would check to see if there is an hole in the base of the cabinet, because all of the Las Vegas casino's without exception had the cash fall into larger cash boxes under the machines.

Also the Aikins front models were first introduced in June 1946, and by that time most of the major Casinos (of which The Golden Nugget was the market leader) had installed either the the Jennings Standard Chief or the Mills Bell-O-Matic Jewel Bell high top models. By 1950 the Las Vegas casinos was using 70% of the Jennings models, and would be the market leader until 1964 when Bally introduced their new hopper payout system, and proceeded to put both Mills and Jennings out of the business in Las Vegas, and the rest of Nevada.

It is quite possible that because of the Golden Nugget's classy decor, they chose to keep the Aikins front models that suited that decor. The information given by slot dynasty is the most reliable because of his vast database on serial numbers, also the coin entry shown on your machine was not on the standard production model of the era. I think if you have an hole in the bottom of the cabinet base, and the serial numbers as indicated by Bill, then you have an original Aikins front model, in my opinion the nicest of the low top models of the 1940's.

Enjoy your machine.

Thanks Freddy ... love gaining knowledge... I know the Aikens front model was very popular. Where did the "Extraball" come into being? Was it just a repro of the original Aikins Front .... thats what I am thinking Royal Bell went with.
Freddy ... your knowledge is so great for the ones in this industry who really actually care, and I hope pass it on. I have a 7 year old grandson that loves slots, because he spent the day with me when I was down there last and bought a slot. I will be bringing it back to him as a gift .... yes... full of nickles. When I was at Preston Evans auction getting his 38 slots up to snuff and lubed and running ..... All machines were great but just a small bit of cosmetic work and lubrication issues..... You except that after sitting for 30+ years. My grandson is hooked and I hope stays that way.
Preston Is awesome and been a great friend for over 35 years.

The first things you always look for to determine an original "Golden Nugget" from a FAKE "Golden Magget",
is the wrap-around coin tray, and Formica sides, which all original models had. They also had embossed
award bibs, which is not easy to tell in a photo of the repro screen-printed version. Also, most had holes
cut open in the base wood, for the coins to divert to the larger cash box. I don't think they did it to the ones
that were used for display only. All the Buckley models I have seen, do not have a standard coin tray. They
are bottom drops, and have the coin tray under the top of the stand.
