Guys,

It's been a while since I last posted.
After careful consideration, I've decided that this Puck would look a lot better if it was completely restored.
There's too much that needs corrected to leave it original.
That gold look you saw in previous post on the coin head and the rest of the metal trim was mostly gold spray paint covering up surface rust where the original watts nickel had failed. The wheel graphics were a total disaster. It's nice that this machine has a paper version of the graphics that is considered acceptable since some of the originals also came with paper wheel graphics. Thanks to Roger Kislingbury for selling an excellent paper copy.

Just finished putting my coin head back together after getting it re-plated with watts nickel. I'm very pleased how it turned out.
Now, on to the last thing, the mech.

That looks really nice !
The paint looks like some tedious work in itself !

I think you made the correct decision to re plate in watts nickel.
That coin head is so beautiful it takes your breath away!!

Guys,

I'd like your opinion on something.
The other day, I got Dick Bueschel's book "AN ILLUSTRATED PRICE GUIDE TO THE 100 MOST COLLECTABLE SLOT MACHINES" down and reread what he had to say about the Caille Puck. I started looking closer at the picture he used and noticed something. I think it could be a picture of MY Puck!
Here is a picture of my Puck, before I started restoring it, and the picture Dick used.

Here are the things I noticed:
1. The large light discoloration on the cabinet finish just above the legs.
2. The small dark spot just above and to the left of the discoloration on the cabinet.
3. The unique wheel. My Puck had what appeared to be a hand painted wheel with the word PUCK instead of the Puck figure on the two light blue positions. Look just to the right of the 12 o'clock position and also the opposite side of the wheel.
4. The grain pattern across the top of the cabinet.
5. The coin head paint on the six coin slots and the dark shade of the nickel finish. On my Puck, all of the nickel had been painted gold and the paint on the six coin slots was somewhat unique.

What do you guys think? Are they the same machine?

Rick

Did you talk to Larry? He might have supplied that picture to Dick to use in his book.

IMHO, I think they are the same machine. The grain you pointed out in #2 as well as the dark spot in #4 are very compelling statements.

In addition, look at the front left leg, I see some blemishes that appear to match as well.

It is kind of cool having a machine that is published. My Superior Horse Race machine is the same machine as shown in the Coin Slot Guide to the Superior Races (#34)

Thanks Sam.
The Puck was one of a few machines that had a paper overlay for the wheel. I got this one from Roger Kislingbury.
