Need Restoration Person

Postby Pvpat » Sat May 12, 2018 9:50 am

I have a Jennings Chief nickel slot that has been stored in garage for years. I'd like the metal to be rechromed, wood refinished, etc. and the insides cleaned, greased, etc. Has all parts and was functioning before it was stored. I can take to machine to Reno, Carson City or Southern California. Know anyone who could take this project on?

I may do that. I have a lead on someone local, but if that doesn't pan out I may take you up on that. The case is a combination of wood (sides) and chrome and plastic. The most glaring defect is that the chrome is pitted. It needs more than polishing. Would you be able to have the metal re-chromed?

Yes the machine castings can be rechromed ....if the pitting is very bad then it would show some I know there’s a special process to cover the pits but it’s very costly

Post some pictures. You may be able to clean the Chrome with steel wool. It may not need all that expense.

I would NOT do the chrome on this machine. It’s a good original Casino machine. Get some Extra Fine 000 or 0000 Steel Wool. You’ll be amazed at how well it will clean up. Being an El Dorado Jennings it’s not too valuable and you’ll get in way too deep with Chrome Cost.

Where are you located ? If your in So Cal I can assist you.

Thx for input. This is the machine my kids had fun with. Then it sat in garage for 20 years. Now I want to get it fixed up for grandkids. Doesn't need to be perfect but I want it to look good and shiny and play well. I think I'll get a quote on chrome to see, but understand what you are saying about cost/benefit. I may have to weight the sentimental value against practicality.

One more thing I forgot to mention. When you use the steel wool, Do NOT remove that "80" from under the coin window. It's a great part of this machine's history.

I have several Jennings Chief's and the Steel Wool definitely will make this machine look amazing.
