OD JENNINGS Lock key blanks

Postby MONTI » Thu Sep 06, 2018 9:17 am

Well here is a question for you older collectors/restorers out there!
Does anyone know of a source for key blanks for the original OD JENNINGS lock that was made by YALE & TOWNE specifically for OD Jennings?
I have been searching for these blanks as I have a few of the original locks as pictured here below all keyed alike and only one key, probably came from a single location where all the locks were replaced and only one key came with the locks!
Anyway!
Does one of you older slot mechs have any thoughts on this!
HELP!

No idea about blanks, but I have several original keys, with no locks. Now there's a chance that you can use an original as a "blank" as long as there's enough material on the key to be able to cut. It'd help if you have a key that has deep lands, and use another key that has shallow lands.

Then the obvious question is, do you have a key cutting machine? If not, I have one that would be able to cut those keys. Putting it out there in case I can help.

Thanks for the offer of help John, it is much appreciated!
I have a few emails and feelers out there on this but I may get back to you on it!
We ought to get together, I have many locks with no keys and you have keys with no locks! LOL
Are your keys ODJ keys with numbers as my locks are all ODJ with numbers!

John!
The locks I have are primarily the ones that take the keys with the longer blade as the one I circled in your original picture!
Those are the ones, at least in the ones I have, that have the ODJ numbers on the lock frame and usually followed by four numbers!
The few matching keys I have are stamped in that way!
I do have many Yale locks of the same design but taking the shorter key that I will be going thru to sort out as well as some of the shorter keys!
As many as I have it is rather time consuming to try each key in each lock but I will get around to it!
The ones I am working with now are the ones that take the key noted in your picture!
I will contact you further when I get more into them!
My question is do they still make a blank for the keys I am talking about, the ones with the 1 & 1/16" bit or blade?
And if so, what would that key blank number be?
I know it would be a generic key but for my purposes that would be fine!
Let me know your thoughts on this!

ALSO,
I notice by your foot note that you dabble in the J400 slots so I imagine you know Pete H. in Vegas, if not let me know as he is the "Go To Guy" for the Logic Boards!

I recently sold 24 of those J400 machines to a movie production company in Canada. They needed them for an upcoming movie about a casino in Lake Tahoe, right on the border of CA and NV.

They wanted non-functioning machines for the movie so I removed the logic boards, hoppers and power supplies. So, I have seven lifetimes worth of spare parts... :) I actually purchased them from Alan Sax years ago and they have been collecting dust since then.

Check out this movie trailer. You'll see my machines in a few of the scenes.

Right!
I remember now as you had posted about this a short while back!
The movie is loosely based on the Cal-Neva Lodge, very LOOSELY based I might add but I am looking forward to seeing it anyway, looks like it will be good!
Very familiar with the Cal-Neva casino history, just a couple pictures below from my collection on Lake Tahoe Casinos!

Monti;
The blanks I have used are Illco 997 JA. If you look for Yale JA key blanks you should find them.
Good luck,
George.

Hello Again George!
Thanks for your assistance as it helped me quite a bit and your giving me the 997JA number assisted me in locating the sellor of the Jennings blanks for Yale locks with ODJ numbers between 1501 and 3000!
My personal locks required the 997JB blanks!
For others here on the forum I have given below the two links for the supplying company!
They also show a very good picture of the two different styles of keys that were used on the Jennings Yale locks for visual comparison!
Hopefully this will also help others here on the forum!
Thanks Again George!
