Bally Reliance

Found this at a local estate sale after seeing a pic on the craigslist advert. I shot over there rapido and wow, was I surprised it was still there!! No key, and not currently working, but family said it did work at one time. Cant wait to get inside. I dont think the lock is original, but I'm a little hesitant to drill it. My Locksmith tried all his (100 or so) old duo keys on it and also tried picking it for an hour, with no luck. Says its a high security hard to pick lock.

Has anyone seen a backdoor lock like this, with the circular convex cover? What is an original lock for this machine?

Congrats on your find!! Those duo keys are a pain to find. My local slot guy found an original lock for my pay installer machine. I’ve been trying to find a second key and I found key blanks on eBay is the back of the lock have a key number? If so, you may be able to search eBay and see if there’s one of those on there for sale.

How much did you pay for that bad boy? I’m sensing you got a killer deal!!!

Update.,.. Well, finally got into her and after finding a complete mech, original cashbox and back door paper, yeah I got a smoking good deal.

I drained the cointube and cashbox to find all nickels from 1930s to a few 1986. So most likely not running for almost 40yrs. Got it cleaned and loosened up, lots of old hard grease many stuck parts. Its now lubed, and cycling, and after studying it for a while, noticed. The dice were all changed from the standard dice values in the parts manual, and there were lots of plugs in the payout drum holes, and it looked like it was professionally done. She was pretty tight on the payouts to improve the house odds. I made notes of the changed dice and plugs, and then changed them back to stock, there are still a few mystery payouts. And I still don't have it working quite right after many hours, but getting closer. Even armed with the parts manual, it has a pretty steep learning curve, but very interesting machine.

Has anyone else noticed plugged payoff drums on one of these? wondering if this was common way of doing it, There were no bugs on the star wheels, like you commonly see on a slot machine.

Can you post a photo of the back side of the back door? I am interested in the size of the hole.

Thanks

I was a little worried about what was under that cover, (like a mangled door from a previous lock removal), but turns out the door was fine and it was simply used as a spacer because the camlock had a longer than normal barrel. I replaced it with a duo lock of the proper barrel length.

Here are the payout drums, which shows all the plugs in the 2nd drum.
