Groetchen Gypsy Fortune Teller Paper Needed

Postby oldpinguy » Sat Jul 05, 2014 8:51 am

Finally picked up a complete Groetchen Gypsy Fortune Teller missing the top card and having a bad number dial. Before launching into a Photoshop project, I thought I'd check to see if anyone (Bill ?) may have repros already available.

Also have an incomplete machine I bought about 25 years ago ( only took me about 10 years to figure out what it was). Missing the front casting, selector dial and knob, tilt mech, and top frame. If anyone, by some miracle, has any parts to sell I would be grateful.
Thanks,
Stan

Hi Stan:
Wish I could help you with the paper for your "Gypsy Fortune Teller", but it is one that I never did.
I sold the one I had, several years ago, but never thought to do the card beforehand, which is not like me.
It doesn't hurt to ask though, because I do have several cards and strips, that are not in my catalog. Most
are specialty items, that are for machines that are few in numbers. There were some items that I decided
not to list, because those type of items are now getting into the wrong hands, to make up Fantasy machines.
It all started many years ago, when I did the reel strips & cards for the Groetchen "Tavern", of which there
wasn't but a half dozen originals known at the time. Then all of a sudden, one particular individual, had
ordered 13 sets over a short period, and I found out 'not soon enough', that they were being used in the
made-up Phoneys, and would no longer sell Anything to that person again. But he copied my repros anyway,
and still uses them to this day. Even putting them in machines they never came in. He has also had Phoney,
made-from-scratch Baseball strips and cards made for him, that never came in any machines, to use in all
his Fantasy creations. Mainly in what were at one time, perfectly good original machines. ALL FOR GREED!
It does appear that more word is getting around about his Phoney Crap, as the sales on ebay have slowed
down considerably. But they'll just end up at a VCA auction, or at the Chicago show.

Thanks Bill,
Looks like some Photoshop time coming up for me. I just looked over my files and found that it was actually YOU who identified that partial machine for me so many years ago. I have a reply from you that i got after I sent you a Polaroid ! (Wow how old is that ?) of the incomplete machine. You were spot on. I'm not sure exactly when that was,, but it was in a file with a copy of your catalog dated Nov 17, 1983 ! Oh, I guess I'm going to need a new catalog, as I suspect your prices may have changed a bit since then :D I also visited you once and got a tour of your collection, way back when, for which I am still grateful. I'm happy to see that we're both still kickin" and coin-oping and I''d like to publicly thank you for all the help you have provided to all us in the hobby for such a long time.
Thanks again,
Stan
PS. I'l send you a PM with my contact info.
