Payout spring

Hello, I just bought a 50-cent Black Cherry at an estate sale, when I was playing it, it will payout on all symbols correctly, except a single cherry which will payout 5 not 2. I turned over the mech and found this spring with the tab and for the life of me I can't seem to see where it goes. It's the 2nd spring from the bottom up going up. I am assuming that's the problem, but need some help Thanks

It's a little hard to tell from your photos without getting into the machine, but it looks to me like the lowest horizontal payout finger (controlling the 2 coin payout) has been disconnected and is hanging loose. Then perhaps the next lowest payout finger is triggering the 5 coin payout for both one and two cherries, based on how that next lowest payout finger is contacting the payout slides. If that's the case, you'd need to take apart the machine and put the lowest payout finger back in place. There's books on how to disassemble and reassemble the mechanisms, or you can find a repair person by telling the group what part of the country you're located in. One of the books I'm referencing is by Dan Mead and Robert Geddes, and is entitled "Owner's Pictorial Guide For the Care and Understanding of The Mills Bell Slot Machine".

Pretty sure that’s the tab broken off the back of the master slide hanging on the end of the spring…

Thanks for the info, I did look at my Mills book, and I think Chendrix is correct because it will not payout on a single cherry, and reading the info on payout slides I think the tab broke free. Thanks again

Took out the pay slides and confirmed (Ugg) master slide is where it broke free, now I have to find how to fix, I doubt someone has a 50-cent master payout slide.

That looks like an easy fix. You could solder, tack weld it or press fit pin it. Just try to place it in the original position or you may need to modify the original spring.
