I’m restoring a Mills Hi Top 777 slot machine. I ran into an issue with the payout that I can’t figure out.

When I have the reel bundle removed, I’m expecting the payout to jackpot every time, but that is not happening. The top two payout slides are fully not retracting for some reason. They are close to being retracted by the payout fingers, but are a little bit off.

All of the springs look good for the fingers and slides. The mechanism seems to run well otherwise. Any ideas on what might be going wrong here?

I’ve included numerous pictures below for reference as well.

First replace the slide springs and if still NG shim the bottom of the coin tube .010 on the bottom of the 4 screws.

Hello, I recently had a similar issue with my Castle Front and it ended up being very dirty coin slides and a burr on the master slide. Did you assemble the payout slides with new springs? if yes did you make sure the slides AND the Master were smooth without any burrs prior to assembly?

Thanks for the feedback. I replaced the springs, checked for any dirt/burrs on the slides, and tried shimming the coin tube. They all appear to be in good shape, but I’m still having the same issue.

It appears that the two leftmost vertical payout levers are not fully pushing the horizontal payout levers out of the way of the top two payout slides. As a result, the top two payout slides are getting caught on the horizontal payout levers.

Could my vertical payout levers be worn out and could something else be shimmed?

I would suggest putting in two stronger vertical payout springs, for the two upper payout fingers that aren't tripping the horizontal payout fingers in question. I've had the problem you describe in the past and that solved it.
