Diamond front repair or part out?

I've been looking for a winter project and came across this machine just miles from my home. Initially I thought I had found my winter project but after looking at the mech I', having second thoughts. It looks like someone disassembled it, lost interest as well as many of the parts, then through what was left back into the case - somewhat. Lots of missing parts, screws, springs, internal case items, etc., not to mention the missing bonnet and escalator. Would this pile be worth $250?

I would buy this basket case for 150 for the parts or a long-term retirement project...just my 2 cents

Thanks for the suggestion on the price. I now have this heavy, heavy cast iron machine. Lots of rust and a few missing parts. I noticed that the reel strips say 2-46 after then strip number. Perhaps the machine was made after Feb 1946?

I was thinking of soaking the bottom of the mech in Evaporust. Any other suggestions for removing lots of rust?

I like Rustoleum Rust Dissolver Gel Formula to take off rust myself. I think it works better than Naval Jelly, which I used previously.

Thanks for the lead, I was looking at the Rustoleum stuff yesterday after discovering that my local hardware store no longer carries Evaporust.

Just for general information, surprisingly, Harbor Freight carries Evaporust.
