solder??? weld???

Hello everyone,

I just bought another Groetchen slot machine. As I began to disassemble it I noticed some repairs made by a previous owner. One in particular was very interesting. The upper Escalator Side Arm was soldered or welded together. It was not a very pretty repair, but more importantly it worked. The Side Arm functioned perfectly and rotated the Escalator smoothly.

My question is about the solder or weld itself. I do not know the type of alloy steel used for the Side Arm. If it is a blob of solder . . . what type was used? Most of my experience with soldering involved various alloy of brass.

Any information would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Ernie

WHEN I LOOK AT THE REPAIR CLOSE UP IT SEEMS TO BE A WELD AND IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL PASS THE TEST OF TIME. I WOULD LET IT BE. IF IT AIN'T BROKEN-DON'T FIX IT. IT NEVER HURTS TO QUESTION A REPAIR.
BEST REGARDS,
SCOTT

Thank you Scott. I have no intentions undoing what is working. Perhaps I will find a replacement part in time.

SORRY I MEANT NO DISRESPECT. THE REPAIR REALLY LOOKS GREAT AND THAT IS WHY I WROTE THAT. ENJOY YOUR NEW COLUMBIA.
NOW I AM LOOKING TO HAVE SOMEONE WELD ON A SMALL PIECE OF METAL ON THE JENNINGS REEL KICKER THAT I POSTED ON PARTS WANTED. ONE MEMBER SAID FIX IT AND IN MY CASE IT WOULD SERVE ME WELL TO FIX IT AND LET ME KNOW IF A MEMBER OF THE FORUM DID THIS REPAIR BEFORE AND I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEND THE PART AND PAY TO HAVE IT RENEWED, REPAIRED AND UPGRADED [-o<
