Hello everyone,
I can finally start restoring my first slot machine.
It is an E series and on the label there are two numbers stamped: 10 and 82.
I think it was made in October 1982.
Now I have a ton of questions.
I dont want to damage the machine out of impatience.
I have experience repairing pinball machines and other electromechanical equipment but have never repaired a slot machine.
How do I know if it is powered by 220V or 115V?
Are there any guides that can explain to me in blocks how a slot works?
Are there any links where I can find a step by step guide?
What are the preliminary checks to do before turning it on?
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

The E series Bally slots have a pair of white connectors on the right inside wall, beside the reels. One is labeled 115v, the other 220v. Whatever plug is used will determine the voltage for the machine.

To fully understand and repair the machine, you'd need to print a copy of this:

Basically, the main thing to get these machines going would involve cleaning and degreasing every moving part on the reel mechanism. Old grease turns to tar, and if any moving part is slowed down, the machine will tilt.

There's a battery on the CPU board, inside left side. If the battery has leaked, it's going to require some board-level repair. If not, you're good to go, but replace it with a Lithium rechargeable (18650) battery.

The power supply on the back wall, behind the hopper, will give you fits due to failed solder joints. There are test points on that to determine if you are seeing correct voltages.

The hopper has a rubber star wheel that generally fails and turns to liquid rubber. Replace that, and be sure the coin wheel doesn't turn when it's not dispensing coins.

This will be a good start.
