(1) It could be the reel brakes aren't set right, so you could try adjusting them, or even removing the offending reel brakes. There could also be something rubbing against the reels that's causing them to slow down too much. In addition, there' may not be enough axial clearance between the reels, causing friction, which requires adjusting the hub between the reels via the two bolts that hold it in place. If that doesn't do it, the 2nd and 3rd reel stop levers may have been reversed and not installed correctly if there was a prior repair/restoration, but hopefully that's not the case.
(2) Move the lever so that it doesn't touch the springs - straighten it, so that it's horizontal/perpendicular to the base of the mechanism
(3) someone may have drilled out the original lock, and that caused shavings to be all over the mechanism - I'd suggest vacuuming them out so they don't jam anything in the mechanism.

new to forum... I just inherited a few coin ops, including a 1920s Mills slot machine... any recommendations on where to order springs and possibly other parts if needed? also, any thoughts on how best to bring a shine back to the case? thanks!
