Columbia Payout Issue

Postby Biggym » Sat Aug 17, 2024 12:45 pm

I am having a payout issue with my Columbia Twin Jackpot Bell. For instance, if I have 3 oranges for a 10 coin payout, the coin in the vestibule drops too soon leaving a 2 or 3 coin payout and a jammed coin magazine. I am unable to figure out the issue, need advice.

It looks to me like the coin-drop out of the vestibule into the carousel is timed to occur just before the payout sequence, so, I'd say you need to advance the coin-drop, not delay it. Now, I'm not claiming this is good practice, but in the past I've adjusted the coin-drop timing by tweaking the vertical leaf-spring doohickey behind and to the left of the escalator: bending the steel strip forward a little should make the coin drop into the carousel a little earlier in the cycle.

The article below is the best description I've read explaining the sequence of operation for a Columbia Mechanism.

Yes, and the guff about the leaf-spring is discussed in the second-to-last paragraph of the article; it tells you that the doohickey can be "adjusted" but doesn't tell you exactly how... I've just been bending it. #-o

Thanks for all the replies to my payout issue. Taking "Marsonion" advice, I took apart the "doohickey" (Coin Shutter on Escalator Side Arm) and removed 2 small leaf springs that sandwiched the main leaf spring. The slot immediately paid out perfectly and did not jam. Interestingly though, I have another Columbia that also has the main leaf spring sandwiched between two small leaf springs but it has never given me any problems with the payout or the jam.
