A number of years ago I bought and restored a classic Jennings Sands Star Chief Slot machine. The acquisition of this machine took me almost 5 years (a story for another time). Since then this machine has been one of my favorites, perhaps mostly due to my personal history with this particular machine.

So when I was approached about 6 months ago about buying its sister, I couldn't refuse...

Dueces-Wild functionality has been taken out of commission (top-sign painted over and plates soldered accross the pin-holes). However it looks authentic enough. However can find much in this particular model. The guy I bought from, bought it from a local amusement-park in the early 1980's. From what he told me he's made not changes to the machine, apart from removing "some old falty elektric-wires".
Is this a later version of the previous machine? Both made for the Sands casino 10 years apart? What's the story with these machines? Why does the second one seem more rare (based solely on Google searches)?
This got me thinking. I'm not actually 100% sure of the Jennings generational timeline. Perhaps someone could enlighten me.
I always just presumed that the earlier 1940's / 1950's models where the ones with the "radiator" up top and the rounded payout tables. Later came the models with the big sign up top and the square payout table. Later again came the models where they dropped the lovely bakelite front-panels completely.
So something like this...

Is that acually right? What is exact timeline for the different models?
