Caille Doughboy closer?

Postby just frank slots » Tue Jan 23, 2024 6:00 am

Hi,
I have a 1936 or so Caille Doughboy... Whoever had it before did a terrible job working on it. I have a part that's like a storm door closer, I know that's not the right name for it but someone put a tight black rubber gasket on the inside making the machine difficult for it to cycle. Hopefully I can get a photo for you so you can tell what I'm talking about.
A friend told me on the phone yesterday that originally it was made of leather not rubber.
So my question is what is the correct name of the part and I need pictures to make a new leather gasket like the original. Thank you.

The rubber is too tight of a fit. If you can find a old foreign car wheel cylinder repair kit the proper size that will work .The leather is more flexible so you have to make one.

Roger Kislingbury has the leather cups for a Caille pump. 626-792-4461. You should soak it in 30 weight oil for a few days before installing. I leave them in a jar of oil until needed.

Hi,
I just called him up, he is really a nice guy but he said my machine is too new... Too new? The machines he likes are from the late 1800's...
Do anyone have any pictures of a Caille pump, what a leather cup looks like... On my Doughboy pump the inside diameter is 1 1/4...
Also for sale... Thank you.

Roger said to contact him again, he does have the leather. He thought you were looking for something for the main pump

Update: Good news.. I called him and he's sending it in the mail... I will continue to talk to people and learn as much as I can about these leather gaskets... A little tricky but not imposable... So far so good!

I can only say that Roger Kislingbury is an all around class act in this hobby!
The man that refered you to him is another of the highly respectable persons in this hobby and just an all around good sort!
