Hi - my husband and I recently acquired a Jennings 25c Standard Chief. Fully functional, just reeks of nicotine and regret.

We have the key and can open the back panel to access the cash box but we're a little nervous about removing the mechanism in order to access the jackpot, which is full (the machine belonged to my husband's step-father who is now in a nursing home, so the previous owners didn't care to collect the quarters). We've seen a few YouTube videos of collectors or service folk doing this with older machines and it looks pretty simple, but some reassurance that "yes it really is that easy and you probably won't #@$% it up" would be nice :)

As mentioned, it smells... well, pretty bad. My in-laws smoked pretty heavily in the house so the odor has really set in and the whole machine could use a good cleaning inside and out. Starting with the outside, what are some good cleaning solutions that won't damage it? Is Barkeeps Friend ok for the metal parts?
(Hopefully adding the image works, it's been a long long time since I did phpbb!)

I’ve always used GoJo waterless hand cleaner on cabinets of slots and pinball machines to quickly and safely remove years of nasty tobacco stains smell and grime. Won’t harm the finish or remove paint unless you somehow leave it on a long time. Works great on any non-porous surface. Don’t use on paper as it will sink on. Get it in line or at auto parts stores.
Hope this helps.

For all of my smokey pinball, slots, pachinko machines I added these.

Fresh Wave Odor Eliminating & Deodorizing Packs https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F2 ... UTF8&psc=1

Also wipe the machine down with general purpose cleaner like this. Safe on all surfaces and eliminated odor.
