Jennings Sun Chief

Hello all, I am just wondering why the difference in the size of the mount or middle tower that the chief head sits on on the sun chief. It looks like some have just 1 section and some have 3 sections between the head and the window.

I think I got it figured out. I believe it is the super deluxe model that has the larger tower. My machine has the tag inside that says SDX Sun Chief. As far as I can tell SDX stands for super deluxe.

You are correct; SDX is Super Deluxe.
However, I don't know if that really explains changes in style of tower; the Sun Chief was in production for a long time and Jennings made a lot of variations in many of their models over the years; look at the Dutch Boys; they jump all over the front casting.
Variations may have been for practical reasons (hand load vs auto fill etc) or simply because a new supervisor came in and thought "this looks better; let's change it." New supervisors often feel compelled to come in and make changes whether it's needed or not.
